LAKEWOOD, Ohio — The recent resignation of Cindy Marx effective Jan. 1 means City Council seeks applicants to fill the seat.
The replacement will serve the remainder of her term, which runs through Dec. 31, 2027.
“We’d love to see a rich pool of applicants,” Lakewood City Council President Sarah Kepple said.
“We’re looking for folks who have a lot of experience in the community and who have contributed particularly toward Ward 4.”
The city council president characterized Ward 4 as one of Lakewood’s “most economically diverse wards.”
That includes the Gold Coast and Birdtown.
“It is a pretty unique ward in that way, so it’ll be interesting to see who applies,” she said.
“We’re all looking for someone who really understands the complexities of Ward 4 and is best able to represent that extremely diverse community.”
Per the Charter, an applicant must be a city resident for at least one year, a registered Lakewood voter and live in Ward 4 to qualify for consideration.
Interested and qualified individuals should submit a cover letter and resume in PDF format by email.
The deadline is Jan. 2.
Council on Jan. 5 will review the applications and establish the next steps in the selection process.
“We’ll review the applications and select from that pool of candidates a number to be interviewed,” she said.
“Those interviews will be public. Then we’ll select a candidate, hopefully to be appointed at the next full City Council meeting.”
As for Marx’s departure, Kepple said she’ll be missed.
“Cindy Marx has served this community for many years both on City Council and in many other capacities in the community, working on the Lakewood Art Festival Board and Lakewood Historical Society,” she said.
“We’re sorry to lose her, but excited for her next chapter.”
