“It’s been really depressing for the last seven months,” a mid-level manager wrote in a Reddit post after being laid off, adding that he has been unable to find a job ever since.
In the post titled “Laid-off mid-level manager, unable to get a job back,” the user said that he has been struggling for seven months after being let go by a Nifty50 company due to restructuring.
He explained that he is an IIT graduate with over 18 years of experience across industries, primarily in implementing new technology. Despite having led multiple digital transformation initiatives, he said the job loss had pushed him into a financial crisis.
“I was making around 70 LPA seven months back, now I am back to zero,” he said, adding that his savings are depleting rapidly. With only two months of runway left and a family depending on him, he said the stress has become overwhelming.
He also mentioned that he had recently purchased a bigger house, but after losing his job within a month of the major expense, he was forced to rent it out because he could no longer afford the EMI.
Efforts to find a new role have been unsuccessful so far.
“I have tried LinkedIn, Naukri, references, consultants. Even took the premium services. But I am not even getting calls,” he said, adding that he has received only two interviews in seven months.

In the comments section of the Reddit post, several users said they were facing similar challenges.
“Same boat. Recruiters ghosting, no calls. AI filters don’t care who you are, only keywords,” a user said.
A user said they finally received callbacks after tailoring their resume using online tools.
Another user offered emotional support: “Keep your head down. Have patience and faith something will turn up. If money is a challenge, try liquidating ancestral land or gold.”
Some suggested that the problem might be his seniority: “You are not getting selected because you are probably overqualified for most jobs you applied. Change your experience and titles as per job requirements.”
