Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Sunday clarified that his main aim was to follow the directives of PTI Chairman Imran Khan. These directives include the management of provincial affairs and the preparation of the street movement planned by the party.
Afridi had earlier announced plans to visit Karachi to engage party supporters. This followed a three-day visit to Lahore, where he met the families of imprisoned senior PTI leaders.
In a statement on social media, Afridi said: “I have only one position. My leader asked me to lead the affairs of the province and prepare for a street movement. God willing, I will carry out these instructions in letter and spirit. Any other news attributed to me is based on personal assumptions.
Regarding his visit to Karachi, Afridi said Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had invited him for a meeting. Afridi thanked Murad and said he would meet the people of his province. If any concerns or issues arise, he will coordinate with the Sindh Chief Minister to resolve them.
Afridis’ visit to Mazar-i-Quaid is scheduled for January 11 around 4 p.m. Earlier, he had planned to visit Karachi on January 9.
The statement comes after media reports suggested that Afridi was open to negotiations with the federal establishment on provincial issues. Afridi clarified that Imran Khan had not asked him to engage in such talks. Instead, responsibility for dialogue was given to Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Senator Allama Raja Nasir.
Afridi also said he would meet the chief of defense forces and the chief of army staff if any formal meetings or ceremonies were held.
During his visit to Lahore, Afridi expressed doubts over the sincerity of the federal government in dialogue with the PTI. He said he was actively preparing for the party’s street movement and reaching out to multiple stakeholders.
He added that any initiative for dialogue or protest with the federal government has been handed over to the opposition alliance Tehreek-i-Tahafuz-i-Ayin-i-Pakistan (TTAP) by Imran Khan.
