Entrepreneur Rosanna Angus, who hails from Sunday Island off the coast of the Dampier Peninsula, has launched a new skincare range, using seaweed extracts, pearl oyster and black rock oyster shells from Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm.
Collaborating with Marine Bioproducts and PhycoHealth chief executive Dr Pia Winberg, Ms Angus said the LANJE range was inspired by the Kimberley’s iconic ocean landscapes.
“The LANJE range is inspired by ocean dreaming, born from saltwater stories and the healing power of our ocean,” she said.
“LANJE is about bringing that cultural knowledge forward with respect and sharing it with the world through science as a shining example of what’s possible when community, culture, and business come together.
“Our natural resources are part of our identity, our history, and our healing practices. The potential to transform them into bioactive skincare products as a future pathway for First Nations-led innovation made me excited for the business opportunity.”
The skincare products use extracted marine collagen from pearl oyster and black rock oyster shells alongside seaweed, which is known to have hydrating, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and collagen protective properties.
Dr Winberg said Ms Angus’ vision aligned with PhycoHealth, which cultivates seaweed extract sustainably on the NSW South Coast.
“LANJE represents the strength of collaboration — blending ancient culture and modern science to create a skincare product that is both deeply Australian and globally unique,” she said.
Marine Bioproducts chief executive Daniel Abrahams said the deep cultural knowledge of First Nations entrepreneurs is an important driver for the economic growth of Australia in marine sciences.
“The collaboration between PhycoHealth, Indigenous leadership, and the Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm is exactly the kind of innovation we exist to support — where marine biotechnology, sustainability, and cultural knowledge create high-value products with impact,” he said.
The product line was launched at the Marine Bioproducts CRC BioConnect event in Brisbane on August 27 and is now available for purchase.
