Keith Urban has been lying low after his divorce from Nicole Kidman was announced amid affair allegations.
Now, insiders close to the 57-year-old country singer claim that life is “just too awkward right now” to do any interviews ahead of his CBS show, The Road, which premieres on Sunday, Oct. 19. He’s got paps hunting him down, and he’s no longer taking direct calls,” a source told Woman’s Day. Urban skipped the red carpet premiere of the show on Oct. 15 in Nashville at executive producer Blake Shelton’s Ole Red Bar.
The insider alleges that “Somebody Like You” singer is “embarrassed to show his face on a red carpet until things settle down with his divorce. The last thing he needs is to overshadow his new show with all his personal issues.” Currently, the narrative is painting him as “the bad guy,” and it’s an uncomfortable place to be right now.
But let’s walk it back as to why fans are not taking Urban’s side in the split after 19 years of marriage. Almost immediately after Kidman filed, TMZ reported that there was indeed “another woman” involved with Urban. While neither Urban nor Kidman has confirmed the tea, his guitarist Maggie Baugh’s name has been thrown around as a possible suspect.
The 25-year-old rising country star’s Instagram account also fed into the gossip frenzy with posting how Urban changed the lyrics of “The Fighter” to reflect her name. The problem is that the song was written for Kidman about the early days of their relationship. Oops!
The other issue seems to be the 58-year-old Oscar winner’s booked-and-busy career. “Nic is about to blanket the media,” an insider revealed to NewsNation on Oct. 9. “She is, of course, devastated about her divorce, but she is an actress in her prime and she loves to work.”
Kidman is able to work the public story in her favor with subtle hints, like in her Oct. 8 Vogue cover story. “How many times do you have to be taught that you think you know where your life is going and then it isn’t going in that direction?” Kidman said about life in her 50s to the magazine.
She’s a beloved figure in Hollywood, and their A-list friends are reportedly taking her side. So, it might be the reason why Urban is staying off the radar even with the Nashville set right now.
