
Let me be clear: In its present form, this proposal is nothing short of an insult to the men and women on Winnipeg’s frontline.
Winnipeg’s population has nearly doubled since the 1970s. Fire department call volumes have soared. Yet the City of Winnipeg fields fewer firefighters and fewer fire trucks than it did fifty years ago. Instead of addressing the crisis, Council has relied on overtime cheques, reserve withdrawals, and carefully crafted press releases about “efficiency.”
