On-loan forward Daniel Kanu says the chance to learn from the club’s experienced strikers drove him to spend the season with Walsall.
Kanu joined on loan from Charlton last month and got off the mark in his fourth game for the Saddlers on Saturday with the winner against Chesterfield.
It gave Walsall a third straight win in League One and sent them up to third.
The 20-year-old netted once in 20 appearances for Charlton last season, and dropped down a level to get more experience, but also to learn from veteran forwards Jamille Matt, 35, and 37-year-old Albert Adomah.
“They’ve had a great experience in the game, so for me, it’s a blessing because I get to play consistently and also learn from players that have been there and done it,” Kanu told BBC Radio WM.
“They’re always willing to help me, and they will always encourage me. They were the first ones to congratulate me on the goal, so that’s the kind of morale that we’ve built just around the strikers and I love it.”
Adomah scored his 100th career goal earlier this month and has made 689 league appearances with eight different clubs, while Matt has 124 league goals spread over 15 seasons.
“That was one of the driving forces of me coming here, not just getting experience of playing, but being able to be a sponge and just learn from other players that we have here,” Kanu added.
“These players have been there and done it, so always when they speak to me, I try to be as receptive as I can so I can learn and build myself up.”
