Wrestling legend John Cena has made an emotional and honest admission ahead of his WWE retirement tour match.
48-year-old Cena is one of the biggest stars to ever come out of the world of wrestling.
Having signed with WWE in 2001, the American is a record 17-time world champion and holds the most recognised world title reigns in the promotion’s history.
Away from wrestling, Cena has also been making waves in Hollywood, having starred in films such as Blockers, F9 and Bumblebee.
Currently, Cena is in the middle of his retirement tour, having announced his plans to step away from the sport back in 2024, during a surprise appearance at Money in the Bank.
Back in March, during the WWE Elimination Chamber, Cena shocked fans with a ‘heel turn’.
Having won the Elimination match, Cena was seen embracing Cody Rhodes before turning on him.
Cena was encouraged to do so by former rival, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
After losing to Rhodes at SummerSlam, Cena abandoned his ‘heel turn’ and reverted to his old self.
However, speaking recently, Cena admitted that his ‘heel turn’ missed its mark.
He said during a fan Q&A at Fan Expo Chicago: “I just know I failed. Ain’t nothing wrong with that. You can learn from failure, right? I went out there and bombed. S**t happens, guys. Hindsight is a waste of time.”
Cena went on to state that he is not in the mood to go into details about what went wrong with his heel turn as he is fully focused on his retirement tour.
He added: “We got 11 dates left. I think I’ll be able to talk about all this bupkus in January after the whole thing is over.
“But we’ve taken the audience on a hell of a ride this year. We still got a ways left to go, so I’m excited about that.”
Cena will be back in action this weekend as he takes on AJ Styles at Crown Jewel, held at the RAC Arena in Perth, Western Australia, Australia.
