The internet lost its mind when it was revealed that Matt Reeves officially handed in the script for The Batman Part II after a years long wait. Though, as always, the internet can never be satisfied with a celebration. With one Batman movie speeding toward production, fans have now begun to wonder when James Gunn will be receiving the script for Batman: The Brave and The Bold.
For those unaware, Batman: The Brave and The Bold is slated to be part of James Gunn’s new DC Universe, featuring the story of Bruce Wayne and his son Damian adapted from the Batman and Son comic. Matt Reeves’ The Batman franchise is set to remain an Elseworlds. However, given the success of Reeves’ take on the character and a lack of progress on The Brave and The Bold, some believe that the project may end up scrapped.
However, it seems as though Batman: The Brave and The Bold may be silently chugging along behind-the-scenes. During a recent interview with Omelete, James Gunn revealed that he plans to read two Batman scripts this year. With Matt Reeves already turning his in, it likely means that he expects the DC Universe’s incarnation of the character to have a finished script relatively soon.
This lines up with James Gunn’s prior comments about Batman: The Brave and The Bold. He’s previously suggested that a Batman movie will come out in 2027, even if Matt Reeves’ sequel doesn’t hit the date. This suggests that he was already ramping up development in the DC Universe’s Batman in preparation, with the project now likely due out in 2028 or 2029.
