Stephen Fry’s Jeopardy! axed after just two series as ITV pulls plug. ITV has reportedly pulled the plug on quiz show Jeopardy! after only two series, with no plans to bring the show back.
The programme, fronted by beloved TV personality Stephen Fry, first aired in a weekday 3pm slot and was based on the hugely popular American format. But it seems British audiences just didn’t bite.
According to TVZone, the show has now officially been axed a year after its last episode aired. When approached by The Sun, the makers of the programme had “no comment.”
Jeopardy! had the tricky task of competing in the crowded mid-afternoon quiz market, sharing airtime with shows like Lingo, Riddiculous, and Tenable, which may have contributed to its struggle to capture viewers’ attention.
Stephen, 66, also hosted the Australian version of the show, which was filmed in the UK but featured contestants who had moved from Australia to live in Britain or elsewhere in Europe. It’s currently unclear if that version has also been cancelled.
The role marked a return to TV hosting for Stephen, who in recent years had largely focused on acting projects. But last year, he stepped into reality TV for the very first time, joining the cast of the BBC’s Celebrity Traitors.
He appeared alongside household names including Jonathan Ross, Clare Balding, Paloma Faith, and Alan Carr, proving he’s still a formidable presence on screen even outside the scripted world.
While Jeopardy! may not have been the ratings success ITV had hoped for, the show offered a chance for fans to see a different side of Stephen, showcasing his wit, charm, and encyclopedic knowledge in a live quiz setting.
Despite the cancellation, Stephen’s return to hosting has reminded audiences why he remains one of Britain’s most respected and versatile TV figures.
Whether he’ll take on another hosting gig in the future remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Stephen Fry’s talents are far from retired, even if Jeopardy! is.
For now, Jeopardy! joins a long list of quiz shows that didn’t quite hit the mark, leaving fans hoping the next Stephen Fry-hosted project hits gold.
