As we say goodbye to one another, this is also a moment to pause and reflect on the year that has passed.
At the beginning of the year, many of us stepped into it with excitement and positivity, just as we should.
Others may have entered the year with uncertainty, feeling there would be a long and difficult road ahead, because life, as we know, comes with its fair share of challenges.
But when you take a moment to look back now, you will realise that you made it through. The challenges that once felt heavy, overwhelming and impossible were faced head-on.
The things that kept you up at night, the situations that caused stress and doubt, are now in the past. They no longer carry the same weight. They are no longer relevant, and they no longer control you.
So, it wasn’t that deep.
As we move into the coming year, it’s important to pause and reflect on the past and adjust the way we do things. There is no set formula for life, but one thing we can control is not repeating the same bad habits that held us back this year.
Take things as they come, don’t have too many expectations, because, in the end, it’s really not that deep.
If you didn’t achieve the goals you set for yourself this year, that’s okay – you are not behind.
You have been given another year, another opportunity to try again. Progress is not linear, and growth doesn’t follow a deadline. So again, it’s not that deep.
I have come to learn this phrase in recent weeks, and it truly resonates with me, because it makes complete sense.
When you approach challenges, obstacles, tasks and life events with the mindset of “it’s not that deep”, you free yourself from unnecessary pressure. If the outcome is negative, it doesn’t define or break you.
And if the outcome is positive, it becomes a bonus, a win to be grateful for.
This simple phrase carries so much meaning. It reminds us that not everything that happens deserves the power to steal our peace. Not every situation needs to be over-analysed, and not every setback should weigh heavily on your heart or occupy your mind. Some moments are simply moments meant to pass.
Learning to say “it’s not that deep” is an act of self-care.
It teaches one to live life with few expectations; it helps us let go of unnecessary pressure and the habit of turning small issues into heavy burdens.
Life will always have challenges, but not all of them require an emotional investment. Sometimes the healthiest response is acceptance, a deep breath and the decision to move on. Just move on.
As the year comes to an end, this mindset becomes even more important.
Reflect on how much you have grown, how many challenges you have overcome, and how the things that once stressed you no longer matter now.
