MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – It’s still to early to say who the next Superintendent will be, but one thing is for sure, it will be a woman.
On Tuesday morning board members from the Manatee County School District made a vote for the two finalists in the running for Superintendent.
In a unanimous decision the finalists are:
Chad Choate, the Chair of the board told ABC7 that understanding Florida and how the state works played a big part in their decisions.
The two eliminated candidates were both from school districts out of the state:
Choate said the school board members looked into the candidates background checks, successes in previous districts, and social media accounts to make the decision.
ABC7 asked Choate is Dr. Breslin would have an advantage, since she is an internal candidate.
“Just because you’re an internal candidate, doesn’t mean your shoe in to get it or not,” said Choate.
“I want to make sure the Superintendent is always pushing to be the best, and they’re open to innovation,” he said. “Also the community aspect, what is your goal to come into the community and really jump in?” said Choate.
Dr. Breslin and Dr. Mathis will now advance to one-on-one interviews with school board members beginning next week.
There is also an opportunity for members of the public to get to know the final candidates. The board will host a meet and greet on Monday, August 18th, at 6:15 p.m. at Manatee Technical College, 6305 State Road 70 East.
The event will provide parents, staff, and community members the opportunity to meet the candidates, learn more about their backgrounds, and share input with the School Board.
