It’s Back! Ram’s Wild 2027 TRX Packs 777 Horsepower to Flex on Ford’s Raptor R

It was only ever a matter of time before “symbol of protest” brand Ram resurrected the TRX, and now that timing has been clarified: summer 2026. This resurrection required no DNA sampling from insects in amber, just some savvy repackaging of existing SRT/Hellcat supercharged V-8 hardware and many of the lessons learned in getting the 5.7-liter V-8 to talk to the new DT-generation Ram’s latest Atlantis electrical architecture. The result is planet Earth’s most powerful (777-hp) street-legal gas half-ton pickup truck ever: the 2027 Ram SRT Hellcat TRX.

The 2027 Ram SRT Hellcat TRX’s engine is billed as all new, not a retune of any previous Hellcat/Redeye/Demon engine. According to Marty Jagoda, special projects chief vehicle engineer, the engine is based on the standard “orange block” engine from the lower-output Hellcats. Boosting the horsepower required shoving more air through it. Jagoda claims the TRX’s full dual sport exhaust with X crossover was already the freest flowing in the industry from the catalyst back, and that the new catalyst required to support stricter ULEV 60 emissions regulation flows as freely as the old one.

That meant the engineers had to look at improving induction flow, optimizing all of the air pathways in ways that reduced induction restriction by 18 percent. They also fitted the valvetrain from the “red block” engines (Redeye, Super Stock, Demon) so they could rev the new TRX engine faster than the previous one. Jagoda wouldn’t specify a redline but expect something between the 6,100 rpm the old one did and the 6,500 rpm a Demon turns. All that air comes in through both the grille and the hood nostril, entering a radial air cleaner circumferentially to ensure even distribution, good flow, and filter life. This breathing improvement is responsible for the massive 10 percent increase in horsepower and a bump in torque from 650 to 680 lb-ft. The TRX output ratings eclipse those of its closest Brand F competitor by 57 horsepower and 40 lb-ft of torque.

Performance claims include 0-60-mph acceleration in 3.5 seconds (0.4 second quicker than our best first-gen TRX test and 0.1 ahead of the 720-hp Ford F-150 Raptor R) en route to a top speed of 118 mph (as fast as the Wrangler Territory AT tires are rated to go).

The Hellcat family uses the highest-torque-rated version of the ubiquitous ZF 8HP95 eight-speed transmission, but this is its first outing with the new Atlantis electrical architecture, so just as the engine had to be programmed to work with the 15 electronic modules it works with, so did the transmission have to learn to communicate with the new “high-control” powertrain module. And because the transmission is a bit wider than the midrange model fitted to most other DT Ram 1500s, a few other modifications were required.

Chassis-wise, the new TRX builds on the RHO, which built on the OG TRX — especially where the Bilstein BlackHawk e2 Ram Active Terrain Dynamics shocks are concerned. The RHO introduced the second generation of that shock design, bringing improved ride control and drive-mode differentiation, all of which gets a further round of refinement based on lessons learned in this TRX application, so that relative to the last TRX we should notice less float and a bigger difference between the drive modes.

Most of the rest is pretty familiar: 35-inch tires on available beadlock-capable wheels, moving through 13 inches of front and 14 inches of rear wheel travel, providing 11.8 inches of ground clearance. An enhanced urethane jounce bumper works with three-stage progressive hydraulic “jounce cut-off” shock internals to cushion those rough landings. The electronically locking differential and hydraulic axle-hop damper are also back.

The new TRX logo features a T-Rex head, the grille gets a high-flow R-A-M grille badge plus front and rear tow hooks in Flame Red. There’s also an optional Bloodshot Night Edition package featuring the first two-tone paint job on a TRX: Blacktop upper and lower, with Flame Red flanks and hood stripe plus splash body graphics. Inside, this special edition gets a glass-encased TRX console badge and carbon fiber with red anodized threads in the weave. Customers can opt for a full-length rock rail or powdercoated running boards.

The seats are covered in Natura Plus leather with perforated suede inserts and feature red bolsters, stitching, and TRX headrest embroidery. Ruby Red seatbelts set it all off. Luxury touches include a leather-wrapped and red-stitched airbag cover plus the full suede headliner and visors — all lifted from the Tungsten model. Naturally, the cast metal and semi-perforated leather console shifter is back, as are the aluminum shift paddles.

You wouldn’t expect a truck this capable to come cheap, and sure enough the base price is $102,590, with very few options to choose (towing packages, wheels, colors, the rails/running boards, and Bloodshot Night package). But that’s a comparative bargain, undercutting the 2025 Ford F-150 Raptor R by $10,935 while delivering tech Ford doesn’t offer, like Active Drive Assist (Level 2+) hands-free cruise control. Ram expects deliveries of the 2027 Ram SRT Hellcat TRX to begin in the summer of 2026.
