A Nigerian man has sparked heated discussions on social media after expressing anger over the rising cost of cooking gas despite the “renewed hope” promise of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), a user identified as Abur Amir shared his frustration about what Nigerians are facing under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Tinubu’s subsidy removal and its impact
He reminded followers that on May 30, 2023, during his swearing-in ceremony, President Tinubu announced that “fuel subsidy is gone.”That declaration marked the beginning of a major economic change that has affected nearly every household in the country.
Since the subsidy removal, prices of fuel and cooking gas have continued to rise sharply, worsening the financial struggles of many Nigerians.
‘It shall never be well with APC and its supporters’ – Man laments
Reacting to the current situation, Abur Amir wrote: “Fuel queues are back, subsidy is gone, taxes have increased, and cooking gas is selling for ₦2k/kg.”
He added: “Again, it shall never be well with APC and it supporters. 🙏”
His comments have since gone viral, drawing mixed reactions from social media users who shared their own experiences and opinions.
Nigerians react with frustration
A user named Lightsurge wrote: “This country really knows how to test a person’s endurance 😩. Every headline feels like a new level in the ‘Survival in Nigeria’ game — fuel queues, higher taxes, and now cooking gas at ₦2k per kg? How are people supposed to breathe when even jollof rice is starting to look like a luxury project?
“You’d think after removing subsidy, things would balance out eventually. Instead, it’s like the math keeps mathing against the common man. Salaries are standing still while prices are sprinting. The average Nigerian is basically doing advanced economics every time they enter the market.
