
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that the new plan for Gaza City recently approved by the country’s security cabinet provided “the best way to end the war”.
“This is the best way to end the war and the best way to end it speedily,” said the prime minister.
In reply to a question on how long the operation in Gaza will take, he said that Israel expects to conclude the offensive plan ‘fairly quickly’.

Netanyahu added that Israel has no choice but to “complete the job” and defeat Hamas, given the Palestinian group’s refusal to lay down its arms.
Israel’s plan to control the Strip was met with strong backlash worldwide, with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday criticising it and saying that the decision marked “a dangerous escalation” that will result in the forced displacement of Palestinians.
