After the success of the “cosmic orange” finish on the iPhone 17 Pro, Apple is reportedly preparing an even more daring color option for the iPhone 18 Pro.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is considering a deep red colorway for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series. The company’s recent shift toward bolder tones, once reserved for standard iPhone models, has paid off, particularly in China where demand for the cosmic orange iPhone 17 Pro surged strongly.
Gurman noted that given the success of cosmic orange, Apple is unlikely to discontinue the option this year. As for rumors of purple and brown versions for the iPhone 18 Pro, the report suggests these are “likely just variations of the same red concept,” as the tones are relatively similar. However, with around seven months to go before launch, design decisions could still change.
In contrast to the bold approach on the Pro line, Apple is expected to avoid flashy colors for its first foldable iPhone. The device is said to steer clear of playful finishes, instead sticking to safe, neutral tones such as dark gray, black, white or silver.
Regardless of the final choice, one thing appears clear: the iPhone Pro lineup is no longer confined to overly muted, conservative shades.
Three-day product announcement event expected
Beyond the iPhone 18 Pro, Gurman predicts Apple will host a three-day product announcement stretch from March 2 to March 4, with at least five new devices set to debut.
The highlight is scheduled for 9am local time on March 4, when Apple will invite a limited group of media and content creators to attend “Apple Experience” events in New York, London and Shanghai. Attendees will have hands-on access to the newly unveiled devices.
Given the “experience” format, Apple is unlikely to hold a traditional livestream event. Instead, new products are expected to be introduced through a series of press releases on the Apple Newsroom website.
Leaks suggest the upcoming lineup may include a budget MacBook, possibly featuring a 12.9-inch display, a variant of the A18 Pro chip and youthful color options; the iPhone 17e, which is said to bring four major upgrades over the iPhone 16e, including the A19 chip, MagSafe support, Apple’s C1X modem for faster 5G connectivity, and the N1 chip supporting Wi-Fi 7.
Other potential releases include an iPad Air powered by the M4 chip, a 12th-generation iPad running the A18 chip, a MacBook Air equipped with the M5 chip, and MacBook Pro models featuring the M5 Pro and M5 Max.
Two new Studio Display monitors are also reportedly in development, though Gurman believes launching them this week could be “a bit much.” This wave of announcements would follow Apple’s recent debut of the second-generation AirTag last month.
