Indonesia is seeking cooperation with Indian technology leaders to strengthen its semiconductor and artificial intelligence supply chain, Deputy Minister for Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria said.In a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday, Nezar said the meetings and discussions took place during his participation in the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi on Feb. 18-20, aimed at boosting Indonesia’s role in the global digital supply chain and accelerating domestic technological capacity.

He held talks with executives from Tata Group and Netweb Technologies to explore potential cooperation in semiconductor assembly, testing, and AI infrastructure, focusing on possible technology transfer and skilled workforce development for high-tech manufacturing.

Nezar said Indonesia’s abundant reserves of critical minerals, including silica sand essential for chipmaking, underpin its downstream processing strategy to generate higher value-added products and build a resilient and competitive national semiconductor ecosystem.

“Indonesia is committed to downstream processing of critical minerals. Our abundant silica sand must be transformed into high value-added products, making cooperation with global industry leaders a crucial step,” he said.

Tata Electronics is building India’s first semiconductor assembly and testing facility, while Netweb is known for its AI-based server innovations. Nezar said potential cooperation could support industrial upgrading and strengthen bilateral technology engagement.

On the sidelines, he praised Indonesian students who won the Intel Global Competition Award for AI-based solutions in agricultural productivity and early stroke detection using computer vision and voice analysis.

One highlighted project, Agrify, is an AI-based web platform that uses its Plant Doctor feature to instantly diagnose plant diseases and provide smart farming schedules based on weather and market analysis, aiming to improve smallholder productivity.

Another project, SITANGGAP, or Rapid Stroke Symptom Capture System, analyzes facial expressions and voice patterns through cameras and microphones to detect early stroke symptoms based on the NIHSS international medical standard, enabling faster public response.

The projects aim to improve farmer incomes and public health outcomes, supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals on health and inequality reduction, he said.

Nezar added the government would continue supporting innovation to scale such projects nationwide and expand their social and economic impact across Indonesia.

He also met executives from major global technology firms, including Qualcomm, Intel, Salesforce, and Meta, to discuss AI deployment, public service modernization, and the development of sustainable digital infrastructure.
