INDIANAPOLIS — The Associated Press has reported that the U.S. and Israel launched a major attack on Iran on Saturday.
The attack reportedly resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The AP has also indicated that an additional 201 people were killed and another 700 were injured in the attack.
Saturday’s attack marked the second time the U.S. has exercised its military powers in Iran in the last eight months. The U.S. previously executed airstrikes in Iran in June.
After Saturday’s military operation in Iran, members of Indiana’s congressional delegation and other state leaders took to social media or issued press releases to weigh in on the matter:
Jim Baird, U.S Representative (Republican)
“For decades, Iran has targeted Americans and our allies, killed thousands of innocent people and has been the largest state-sponsor of terrorism,” Baird said via release. “Iran took Americans hostage for 444 days in 1979 and funded Hamas terrorists’ horrific October 7th attack in Israel. The U.S. has sought diplomatic solutions for years, but the Iranian regime refused to listen. Iran now faces the consequences of its actions. I am grateful we have a president who is willing to take decisive action to defend our country and our allies. President Trump has sent a message that Iran’s reign of terror is over.
“I thank our allies who have offered their support. I ask everyone to pray for our courageous troops as they carry out Operation Epic Fury, and may God bless America.”
Andre Carson, U.S. Representative (Democrat)
Todd Young, U.S. Senator (Republican)
Jim Banks, U.S. Senator (Republican)
Rudy Yakym, U.S. Senator (Republican)
Victoria Spartz, U.S. Representative (Republican)
“I don’t support us being engaged in nation-building — it’s up to the people of each nation, and we must have clear strategy,” Spartz wrote in a post X that featured CNN coverage of Saturday’s U.S. military action. “But I am so sick and tired of Democrats’ ‘diplomatic negotiations’ BS. With whom — dictators, terrorists, bandits? They only understand the language of weapons.”

Jefferson Shreve, U.S. Representative (Republican)
Mike Pence, former Vice President of the U.S. (Republican)
