India has made significant strides in global environmental conservation, ascending to ninth place in total forest area worldwide. This advancement was highlighted in the Global Forest Resources Assessment (GFRA) 2025, unveiled by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) during its meeting in Bali. Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, shared this achievement on the social media platform ‘X’.
Previously ranked tenth, India now holds the third position globally for annual forest area growth, emphasizing its dedication to sustainable forestry practices. Yadav attributed this success to the effective policies and initiatives led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration, focusing on forest protection, afforestation, and community environmental involvement.
The Prime Minister’s initiative, ‘Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam’, coupled with his persistent advocacy for environmental awareness, has galvanized national participation in tree planting and conservation efforts. This collective drive is nurturing a strong public commitment to a greener future.
