‘I’m down 90 prosecutors’: Jeanine Pirro blasts Trump’s mass firings — without naming him

Former Fox News host Jeanine Pirro — who was recently confirmed by the Senate as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia — is finding it exceedingly difficult to do her job after President Donald Trump’s administration hollowed out her office.

That’s according to the Daily Beast, which reported on an interview Pirro did with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham about her current role as the Department of Justice’s top prosecutor. Pirro lamented that her office was severely short-staffed, and implied that former President Joe Biden was at fault.

“We’re down like two-thirds staff,” Ingraham said to Pirro. “What’s going on?”

“Yeah, I’m down 90 prosecutors, 60 investigators and paralegals,” she responded, adding that “nobody cared enough to make sure that office was running. I’m gonna have that office running.”

She then looked at the camera and made a direct plea to Fox News viewers, telling them: “If you want a job in the nation’s capital in the premier office, the largest U.S. Attorney’s office, contact me at [email protected].”

However, if Pirro is looking for someone to blame for the staff shortages in her office, she could look to the White House. As CBS News reported in July, the Trump administration has been firing dozens of career DOJ prosecutors and paralegals since his second term began in January. This includes DOJ staff from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, where many prosecutors worked on cases involving participants in the January 6, 2021 siege of the U.S. Capitol. One staffer at that office who lost their job was Patty Hartman, who was a public affairs specialist that circulated press releases about the January 6 defendants.

“The rules don’t exist anymore,” Hartman told CBS. “There used to be a line, used to be a very distinct separation between the White House and the Department of Justice, because one should not interfere with the work of the other. That line is very definitely gone.”
