ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court in Islamabad on Tuesday extended the pre-arrest bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in several cases, including those related to the May 9 events. The court restrained law enforcement agencies from arresting Imran Khan in five related cases until the next hearing.
According to the court order, the pre-arrest bail of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi will remain in force till January 27, 2026. The move provides temporary relief to the PTI founder, who is facing several legal cases.
During the hearing, the court made it clear that Imran Khan must ensure his presence at the next hearing, either by appearing in person or via video link. The judge stressed that the legal proceedings would move forward with formal arguments at the next court date.
The court also asked the prosecution and defense to prepare fully so that the cases can proceed without delay. The case will be taken up again on January 27, when detailed arguments are expected to be heard.
Moreover, former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan effectively rejected Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s call for political dialogue by renewing his party’s push for a protest movement, party leaders and government sources said on Monday.
Imran Khan’s latest post, shared on social media platform X, makes it clear that he wants the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to focus on protests rather than talks. Following the statement, PTI leaders confirmed that the party would follow Imran Khan’s leadership, despite Achakzai’s call for negotiations to ease the country’s political crisis.
PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said that since the call for protest came directly from Imran Khan, it would be followed by the party. He explained that while Mahmood Khan Achakzai is free to pursue dialogue as part of his own political strategy, the PTI leadership is required to act as per Imran Khan’s instructions. He added that Imran Khan had ordered the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister to prepare for a protest movement aimed at restoring the rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution.
Earlier, addressing a national conference of the opposition alliance, Mahmood Khan Achakzai had said that the Constitution had been badly damaged and urged top political leaders, including Nawaz Sharif and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, to start a dialogue to bring the country out of the crisis.
However, on the same day, Imran Khan issued a strong message calling for protests and asked Khyber Pakhtunkhwa leaders to prepare. His statement also included sharp criticism of the country’s military leadership.
Separately, a source close to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government saw no possibility of talks with the PTI unless the party expressed regret or apologized for the events of May 9 and what the government described as continued anti-army campaigns.
