Ian Wright has lauded Maya Le Tissier as the ‘most consistent’ English centre-half in the Women’s Super League.
It was confirmed yesterday that Le Tissier had been called up to the Lionesses squad for their upcoming double-header of friendlies against Brazil (October 25) and Australia (October 28).
However, Manchester United fans aren’t overly optimistic that she’ll actually feature in the fixtures, given Sarina Wiegman’s continued controversial omissions of the 23-year-old – despite her being one of the most in-form defenders across Europe for the last year.

For example, she was included in England’s Euro 2025 squad over the summer but did not feature for a single minute at the tournament, which they eventually won. Instead, she watched on whilst Leah Williamson, Jess Carter, Alex Greenwood and Esme Morgan were all utilised in central defence throughout their journey to the final.
Wiegman addressed the media on Monday and was pressed specifically on Le Tissier’s situation, telling reporters: “Of course, we see every single game at Man United and it’s incredible how consistent she is, also in availability. I still see her as a right-back for us, but I know she can play as a centre-back, too.”
This prompted the official United Women’s Twitter/X account to respond, sharing a statistic that emphasises just how bizarre Wiegman’s comments were.
Wright also reacted on Instagram to the head coach, stating: “(Le Tissier is the) most consistent English CB in the league. I don’t understand.”

So far, the Red Devils skipper has earned only eight caps for her nation.
United have yet to taste defeat in the WSL since they got their 2025/2026 campaign underway, and Le Tissier has been absolutely integral to that.
She also got them off the mark in the Champions League, scoring the side’s first-ever European goal from the spot in a 1-0 win over Valerenga in their opening contest at Leigh Sports Village.
