Her decision comes days after a public clash with Trump over her support for releasing the Epstein files. In a four-page statement, the Georgia Republican said the legislative branch has been “sidelined” and accused her party’s leaders of refusing to move forward on conservative priorities such as border security and “America First” policies. “No matter which way the political pendulum swings, Republican or Democrat, nothing ever gets better for the common American man or woman,” Greene said. She added that when people understand that “the Political Industrial Complex of both parties is ripping this country apart” and that leaders like her cannot stop “Washington’s machine,” they will realise “they, common Americans, The People, possess the real power over Washington,” and she said she would stand with them “to rebuild it.” “I look forward to a new path ahead,” Greene added. As she prepares to leave the House of Representatives, US media reports, as cited by BBC, suggest she may pursue state office — either the Georgia governorship or a Senate seat. Last week, Greene said she had been contacted by private security firms “with warnings for my safety” after Trump withdrew his support for her. In a post on X, she said “a hot bed of threats against me are being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world,” calling him “the man I supported and helped get elected.” Their relationship soured after she joined a small group of Republicans supporting the release of all government-held files related to Jeffrey Epstein. Trump was initially against the legislation but reversed his position when it became clear Greene and other Republicans would join Democrats to pass it. In recent months, she has criticised Trump and Republican leaders on several issues, saying they were not doing enough to lower costs for voters and questioning whether Trump was still putting “America First” due to his focus on foreign policy. She also faulted him for refusing to release the Epstein documents, noting that the president “could have ordered their release at any time.” Trump responded in multiple posts calling Greene a “traitor” and “wacky” and vowing to support a challenger for her seat. The measure requiring the Justice Department to release the Epstein files passed Congress on Tuesday, and Trump signed it into law on Wednesday.
