Hundreds join ‘No Kings’ protest in Detroit, Michigan GOP responds

DETROIT – On Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, Roosevelt Park in Detroit held one of many “No Kings” rallies taking place across Michigan and the United States.

The event drew hundreds of participants voicing their concerns about government policies and leadership.

This is the second wave of protests, following nationwide “No Kings” demonstrations held on June 14 against President Trump’s military parade in Washington, D.C.

In reaction to the protests, Michigan GOP leaders criticized the demonstrations and expressed continued support for the administration.

Rep. Tim Walberg said, “President Trump has delivered a historic peace deal, and Republicans have voted responsibly to fund our government. Meanwhile, Democrats have repeatedly opposed a clean government funding bill, as they faced pressure from the numerous radical groups behind the nationwide ‘No Kings’ rallies, including the Communist Party, the Young Communist League, and the Democratic Socialists of America.”

Walberg also expressed concern over recent calls for political violence, referencing a rally in Monroe County where Democratic Party officials allegedly called for President Trump’s assassination.

“Jocelyn Benson, who headlined this event in Monroe, has yet to condemn the calls for violence from her fellow Democratic Party officials. It’s time for Democrats to distance themselves from the radical ideologies fueling division and violence, and instead come back to the table and reopen the government by voting for the funding bill they’ve supported 14 previous times.”

Rep. Tom Barrett added, “There is no king of the United States of America, which is exactly why people are free to protest peacefully and make their voices heard. I defended that freedom in the Army, and I’m eternally grateful for it, even when it means the same handful of protestors show up at cookie-cutter rallies that are funded and organized by far-left groups whose only goal is to sow division in our country.”

The “No Kings” rallies continue to spark debate as protesters and political leaders express sharply contrasting views on government policies and the state of the nation.
