Liverpool and Arsenal’s Premier League clash has had a late change to the officials.
Michael Salisbury had been set to take up VAR duties for the clash on Sunday afternoon – but he has been dropped by PGMOL ahead of the clash. Salisbury was performing the same role for Chelsea’s fixture with Fulham on Saturday lunchtime.
And that game was overshadowed by VAR – which advised the on-field referee to rule out Josh King’s strike for the Cottagers. Multiple outlets have now reported that Howard Webb has reached out to apologise to Fulham.
The decision is said not be in line with PGMOL principle of the “referee’s call” and its high bar for intervention, reserved for clear and obvious errors.
Salisbury will be replaced by John Brooks on Sunday afternoon as the top two from last season go head-to-head.
