OSHTEMO TWP., MI – The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide that occurred at an apartment complex in Oshtemo Township this weekend.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene of the incident following reports of shots fired in the area at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, deputies said. The incident took place at the Mt. Royal Apartments on Concord Place Drive, which is just east of U.S. 131.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered an unresponsive woman who had been shot and a man who was severely assaulted.
After deputies rendered immediate medical aid to each of the victims, the man was transported to an area hospital. He is now in stable condition, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, deputies said.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office Crime Lab technicians were still on the scene as of approximately 8 a.m. Saturday to conduct interviews and process evidence related to the case.
Additionally, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services Unit is working closely with the families of the two victims as they navigate the aftermath of the incident.
The investigation into the incident remains active, and deputies will release additional information about the matter as it becomes available.
