BRS working president KT Rama Rao launched a fierce attack on the Congress-led Telangana government, blaming Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for the collapse of the real estate sector and selective demolitions targeting the poor. Addressing new party entrants, KTR criticised both Congress and BJP for their inaction on the BC Reservation Bill.
Pointing out that the government was selectively demolishing houses of the poor in the name of encroachments, he said Revanth Reddy was sparing encroachments by influential persons, especially Congress leaders.
Several local leaders from Rajendranagar and Jubilee Hills, including former DCMS chairman and ex-MPP Chekkala Yellaiah Mudiraj and former sarpanch Chekkala Chandrasekhar, along with Pasham Pallavi and her husband Anjibabu, formally joined the BRS.
Rama Rao welcomed them into the party fold with pink scarves. Other BRS leaders at the event reiterated confidence that the party would return to power in two years and promised to address the issues plaguing the State at the earliest.
Addressing the newly joined leaders and cadre at Telangana Bhavan, Rama Rao said the government’s policies had precipitated a collapse in the property market and warned that ordinary citizens were bearing the brunt.
He pointed to the Congress government’s double standards where properties of several Ministers and leaders including Revanth Reddy’s brothers and relatives, Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, G Vivek, Whip Patnam Mahender Reddy, KVP Ramachander Rao and others in ponds or protected areas have remained untouched. None, including Congress leaders, is happy under the Revanth Reddy regime.
“Revanth Reddy insulted even Minister Konda Surekha as her daughter exposed the corrupt practices within the government,” he said, ridiculing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy for his earlier remark of ‘bombs’ exploding in the BRS, pointing that this Diwali, the bombs appeared to be already exploding within the ruling party.
Rama Rao took a dig at the Congress and the BJP which extended solidarity to the recent BC Bandh. He criticised them for not taking any steps to get the bills approved in the Parliament and facilitating the 42 per cent reservation, and instead, enacting dramas on the streets.
“Would not the BC Reservation Bill get cleared if all the 16 MPs from BJP and Congress resigned from their posts demanding it?” he asked.
The BRS working president reminded that immediately after coming to power, the Chief Minister had targeted Rajendranagar and cancelled tenders called for the Airport Metro Rail project on the suspicion that he held land there. He challenged Revanth Reddy to prove the allegations as the Congress was desperately trying to find his properties.
“If Revanth Reddy can prove that I own properties in the area, I am willing to hand them over,” he declared.
Slamming the State government for replacing an investor-friendly approach with one of intimidation, Rama Rao said while the BRS rolled a red carpet to industrialists and safeguarded their investments, the present Congress regime was using guns to intimidate the same investors and collect commissions.
Exuding confidence of BRS victory in the Jubilee Hills byelection, Rama Rao declared that the BRS would top it up with wins in either Rajendranagar or Khairatabad bypoll thereafter, followed by other constituencies where BRS MLAs defected to the Congress.
There were plans to move the Supreme Court once again as the deadline for the Speaker’s decision on defections was inching closer, he said, reiterating that the BRS would return to power after two years and teach a fitting lesson to those who were acting against the interests of the State.
