The former Glebe House site in Rathcoole looks set to be turned into nursing home as the protected structure continues to deteriorate.
The site – which was formerly proposed to be turned into an aparthotel almost a decade ago – includes the former Glebe House charter school. Now developers hope to build a 100 bed nursing home on the surrounding site.
A new application to demolish the units along Eaton Drive has been submitted to South Dublin County Council with provision for a future nursing home. Elements of the buildings are to be retained to provide administrative accommodation for the nursing home.
It is hoped to use the Glebe House building as an entrance gateway into the nursing home development. In the pre-planning advice, a nursing home was considered a more sustainable use of the space over an aparthotel.
Plans to develop the site into a nursing home have been underway since 2022 when a pre-planning meeting took place. But now the submission of an application has moved the plans closer to becoming real.
Observations can be made on the application until July 16 2025. A decision is set to be made by SDCC planners by August 6 2025.
