WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. – A high-pressure gas release was mistaken for an explosion in Washtenaw County. Residents are advised to avoid the area.
The incident occurred on Thursday (Feb. 12) after a gas line rupture at 5:24 p.m. closed Ellsworth Road, east of State Street and S. Research Park Drive, in Pittsfield Township, causing damage to vehicles and prompting a road closure.

Both eastbound and westbound traffic on Ellsworth Road between State Street and S. Research Park Drive is closed.
Washtenaw County Metro Dispatch issued a public notification via Everbridge.
The Pittsfield Fire Department is monitoring air quality near the site, while DTE is working to stop the gas leak and ensure safety.
Gas monitor readings currently show no public safety hazard.
Initial reports of an explosion were inaccurate.
The gas line is under high pressure, and the rupture’s release gave the appearance of a possible explosion, per officials.
Fire suppression has not been necessary.
The Ann Arbor Police Department is assisting on scene.
The University of Michigan Police Department issued an emergency notification due to nearby university buildings.
No injuries have been reported.
