In over three years at Collider, senior author Jake has now penned over 2500 articles covering a wide range of TV and film for the resources, lists, utilities, news, and interview teams. Alongside interviewing stars such as Selin Hizli, Rose Ayling-Ellis, Harlan Coben, and Chelsea Peretti, Jake was lucky enough to visit the set of Aardman and Netflix’s Wallace and Gromit: A Vengeance Most Fowl in 2024, getting the chance to chat with four-time Academy Award winner Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham. Jake has also worked for other publications, including Agents of Fandom.
The drama between the Game of Thrones spin-offs has taken another turn. Recently, George R.R. Martin publicly declared that a once-close creative partnership had deteriorated between the author and House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal, going as far as to describe their current relationship as “abysmal.” After admitting that their partnership had been fruitful during the first season, Martin said:
“Then we got into season two, and he basically stopped listening to me. I would give notes, and nothing would happen. Sometimes he would explain why he wasn’t doing it. Other times, he would tell me, ‘Oh, OK, yeah, I’ll think about that.’ It got worse and worse, and I began to get more and more annoyed.”
HBO’s chief content officer, Casey Bloys, has since come to the defence of Condal, saying he “has been an excellent showrunner and a really great partner and collaborator, so we embrace his vision and his creative choices, or we wouldn’t have done it.” However, the huge success of the newest spin-off on the block, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is only adding to House of the Dragon’s pain. The series has managed to fend off strong competition to maintain its place at the top of the HBO Max streaming charts for most of its run. However, House of the Dragon has now returned to provide direct competition, with the original Game of Thrones spin-off currently one of the ten most-streamed shows on HBO Max in the U.S.
‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Just Did Something ‘House of the Dragon’ Couldn’t
Although a pending third season could retaliate, as it stands, the latest episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has done something its spin-off predecessor could never. The latest installment in the series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Episode 4, has officially earned a near-perfect 9.7/10 score on IMDb. This is a total that Game of Thrones both reached and outperformed during its iconic run, but something House of the Dragon hasn’t managed to date. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is also defeating its competition on another review site, with a 95% critics’ score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, an improvement on House of the Dragon’s 87%.
