Julius Malema, leader of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters party, was found guilty of hate speech for racially charged comments made in 2022. The Equality Court’s decision comes amid international attention, including criticism from the Trump administration over perceived anti-white government policies in South Africa.

South African politician Julius Malema has been found guilty of hate speech by an Equality Court. The far-left Economic Freedom Fighters party leader made racially incendiary remarks at a political rally in 2022, triggering the recent court verdict.

Highlighting the international dimension, Malema’s comments were spotlighted in a video shared by former US President Donald Trump during a meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. Trump’s administration criticized South Africa for alleged anti-white government policies.

The equality courts in South Africa handle cases related to discrimination, hate speech, and harassment. They have not yet decided on a suitable punishment for Malema in this latest conviction.
