Women from across the area will come together to work with Habitat for Humanity of Craven County during its 2026 Women Build program.
The Women Build program focuses on creating female-friendly, inclusive environments where women can volunteer their time to learn, work and form friendships while addressing critical housing needs in Craven County, said Tracey Lilly, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Craven County.
This year’s program, sponsored by the Coastal Women’s Forum, will be held Feb. 25 through Feb. 28.
Lilly said the program provides an opportunity for women from all walks of life to join and work together for a common goal.
All experience levels are welcome as Women Build volunteers, with no construction skills required.
“Whether you’re learning a new skill or expanding your tool belt, this is a rewarding experience for everyone involved,” Lilly said. “The Women Build empowers families with greater strength, stability, and independence through home ownership, particularly women and children, who are most affected by poor living conditions.”
Coastal Women’s Forum Board member Heather Thornburg said the organization is excited to support not only Habitat for Humanity but also the women who are helping to build a stronger community.
“This sponsorship allows us to not only support the organization financially but physically,” Thornburg said. “It’s a true building situation.”
The Women Build will take place on Feb. 25 from noon to 4 p.m., Feb. 26 from 8 a.m. to noon, Feb. 27 from 8 a.m. to noon, and Feb. 28 from 8 a.m. to noon or noon to 4 p.m.
Volunteers can also consider donating $20 per person, per volunteer shift to help Habitat for Humanity of Craven County raise money for its Home Sweet Home campaign.
Lilly said Habitat hopes to raise $150,000 for the construction of the new home in New Bern’s Pembroke community, which will be the focus of this year’s Women Build construction project.
Women Build 2026 also offers three sponsorship levels for corporations or groups that wish to boost community presence and support a meaningful cause.
Volunteers for the Women Build can complete an application and sign up for orientation at cravencountyhabitat.org.
