The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto, has led Ghana’s participation in a high-level Trade and Tourism Mission in Russia held from 16 to 20 February 2026.
Her engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to position Ghana as a competitive and investment-ready destination within the global tourism and trade landscape.
During the mission, Houadjeto addressed plenary sessions and served as a panellist in discussions focused on trade expansion, tourism diplomacy and cross-border investment collaboration. She highlighted Ghana’s strategy of leveraging tourism as a driver of economic transformation, cultural exchange and sustainable development.
In her remarks, the GTA chief underscored Ghana’s strategic location as the gateway to West Africa, its stable political environment and deliberate government policies aimed at strengthening tourism infrastructure, expanding the creative arts sector and enhancing investor confidence.
As part of the trade exhibition component of the mission, Houadjeto showcased Fugu, Ghana’s indigenous woven textile, presenting it as a symbol of cultural authenticity and craftsmanship with strong commercial potential. The display attracted interest from participants and investors, drawing attention to opportunities within Ghana’s cultural and creative industries.
Officials indicated that the presentation formed part of a broader strategy to reposition Ghana’s cultural heritage as a scalable economic asset capable of penetrating international markets.
Beyond the formal sessions, the GTA CEO held targeted engagements with high-level investors and business leaders to outline bankable opportunities across Ghana’s tourism and trade ecosystem. Discussions centred on hospitality and eco-tourism development, creative arts and cultural export expansion, infrastructure partnerships and destination marketing collaboration.
The meetings advanced conversations on long-term partnerships, capital inflows and technical cooperation intended to strengthen Ghana’s tourism value chain.
The mission also contributed to deepening bilateral engagement between Ghana and Russia, opening new channels for trade and tourism cooperation. Houadjeto reiterated Ghana’s readiness to welcome strategic investors and reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to facilitating partnerships capable of delivering measurable economic impact.
The participation underscores Ghana’s proactive approach to trade and tourism diplomacy as it seeks to consolidate its position as a preferred destination for investment, culture and international visitors.
