
AMERICUS, Ga (WGXA) — Georgia Southwestern University (GSW) announced the passing of Lecturer Morgan Whaley on Monday.
President Michelle R. Johnston issued a statement saying she is “deeply saddened to share that Morgan Whaley, Lecturer in the GSW College of Education, passed away yesterday (Sunday) after a courageous battle with cancer”.
According to Whaley’s obituary, she was 38 years old when she passed away, fighting cancer called Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma, High Grade.
According to Johnston, Whaley had been with Georgia Southwestern for six years, since 2020.
Whaley was initially hired in the College of Education and worked in this capacity while earning her Master’s Degree. Following her promotion, Whaley served as a Lecturer in the College of Education.
Among the many things that Morgan will be remembered for are her kindness, quick wit, and generosity. She had a special way of affirming people and pushing each of us to be our very best. The impact she had on GSW extends far beyond the classroom or office and will continue through the many lives she touched,” Said Johnston. “At a close-knit university like ours, losses are difficult to process.
