Islamabad: The Government of Pakistan is set to implement significant reforms aimed at protecting the rights of overseas Pakistanis and enhancing governance and digitization within pertinent institutions. This initiative was announced by the Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, during his address at the Pakistan Governance Forum-2026 in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister emphasized the importance of governance and transparency, advocating for government policies to have a fixed expiry date. This approach is intended to provide assurance to business investors about the longevity of policies, thereby facilitating continuity and long-term planning. Chaudhry Salik Hussain noted that investors should have confidence that a policy will remain consistent for several years.

In his discussions with foreign governments, the Minister highlighted successful negotiations with Spain to grant legal status to approximately 20,000 Pakistanis residing there. This move will result in the issuance of residence permits, allowing these individuals to contribute to Pakistan’s economy through foreign exchange.

Chaudhry Salik Hussain also reported a notable increase in remittances in recent months. He discussed plans to equip young Pakistanis heading abroad with essential soft skills, making them aware of international laws and professional standards. This training is set to become mandatory for new workers.

Further reforms include resolving longstanding cases in the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution, potentially benefiting the institution with billions of rupees. The Workers Welfare Fund is also undergoing changes to enhance laborers’ facilities.

The Minister stated that actions have been taken against illegal agents, and complaint redressal processes at the Bureau of Emigration have been improved. Additionally, the digitization of all relevant systems, including Protectorate Offices, is planned for completion this year.
