Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla announced the government’s commitment to improving safety for tourists as the Philippines’ tourism industry continues to expand.
Remulla, speaking at the 3rd Hotel Sales and Marketing Association (HSMA) Sales and Marketing Summit, affirmed the Marcos administration’s dedication to strengthening law enforcement and ensuring national security to support tourism growth.
“For the next few years, next few months, we’ve invested heavily to make the country one of the safest in the world,” Remulla said during his speech on the impact of government policies on the hospitality business.
As part of these initiatives, Remulla highlighted the ongoing revitalization of the unified 911 Emergency System, expected to be fully operational by July 2025 in select cities, including Metro Manila, Davao and Cebu.
The DILG chief also outlined plans to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras nationwide, aiming for one camera per 1,000 square meters.
Additionally, the government plans to acquire additional patrol cars and motor vehicles for Metro Manila to ensure a five-minute response time for emergencies.
Remulla underscored the national government’s commitment and urged the hospitality sector to partner in bolstering the tourism industry.
“We have to work together. We are committed to making the Republic of the Philippines a better Philippines,” Remulla said.
