Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has officially welcomed hundreds of former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in what is being described as a major political realignment in the Yauri Emirate.
The defectors, drawn from Yauri, Shanga, and Ngaski Local Government Areas, were led by Barrister Mudi Abubakar, a former lawmaker, who declared their collective decision to abandon the PDP in favour of Governor Idris’s leadership and vision for the state.
Speaking on behalf of the new APC members, Abubakar praised the Governor’s “remarkable performance,” citing visible progress in infrastructure, agriculture, education, health, and security. He also commended the administration’s inclusive approach, especially the appointment of sons and daughters of Yauri Emirate into key state and federal positions.

“Our decision is driven by the Governor’s outstanding leadership and his commitment to the development of Kebbi State. We believe in his vision and want to be part of the transformation,” Abubakar said.
Receiving the defectors, APC State Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, assured them of equal rights and full integration into the party, adding that the APC remains open to all Nigerians who believe in its progressive ideals.
In his remarks, Governor Idris described the event as a “historic day” for the APC in Kebbi, calling the mass defection a clear endorsement of his government’s policies.
“This is not just a political event — it is a sign of renewed trust and unity in Kebbi State. We welcome you wholeheartedly and assure you of equal opportunity and partnership in building a better future,” the governor said.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and pledged continued investments in the development and security of the Yauri Emirate and the entire state.
