MOSCOW, Idaho — The family of The family of Kaylee Goncalves, one of four University of Idaho students murdered in 2022, issued a statement on Friday in response to newly released documents that detail police investigation into the murder and Bryan Kohberger.
The family wrote their statement on Facebook on Friday afternoon:
“We are slowly trying to process what we have been reading. Please understand we are all reading them at the same time as everyone else. Do you think this was a fair way to find out the absolute brutality Kaylee had endured. This was part of what we had been fighting for, for years! Tell us what happened to Kaylee, we deserve to know before the rest of the world.”
Kohberger pleaded guilty earlier this month to avoid the death penalty. He was sentenced to four consecutive life terms for the killings of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin inside an off-campus Moscow home on Nov. 13, 2022. He also received 10 years for burglary and was ordered to pay more than $270,000 in restitution.
Alongside the sentencing, the Moscow Police Department released supplemental investigative reports that outline things like strange happenings before the murders took place, the scene when police first responded, the police investigation, police interactions with Kohberger and interviews with people who spent time in jail with Kohberger.
