KUCHING (Nov 2): The Congress of Union of Employees in the Public and Civil Services Malaysia (Cuepacs) serves as an important voice for civil servants in championing the welfare, well-being and rights of the nation’s public service members, said Datuk Gerawat Gala.
The Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) said the Sarawak government values Cuepacs’ role and contributions, noting that the organisation not only advocates for the interests of civil servants but also acts as a strategic partner in ensuring the smooth implementation of government policies and development agendas.
“Cuepacs is a key partner of the government in building an efficient, integrity-driven, and people-oriented public service.
“We value the dedication of Cuepacs leaders, both at the state and national levels, who continue to stand up for the rights and welfare of civil servants,” he said, according to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
He was speaking at the Madani Cuepacs Appreciation Dinner here yesterday.
During the event, Gerawat announced an allocation of RM30,000 to support Cuepacs Sarawak’s activities and programmes for 2026, as a gesture of appreciation for the congress’ role in strengthening the relationship between civil servants and the government.
He stressed that the Sarawak government remains committed to protecting workers’ rights and welfare through the amended Sarawak Labour Ordinance, which came into effect in May this year.
“The amendments not only safeguard workers’ rights but also strike a fair balance between the needs of employees and employers.
“This will, in turn, enhance investor confidence in Sarawak’s fair and modern labour system,” he said.
The appreciation dinner was held in recognition of Cuepacs’ ongoing contributions toward fostering closer collaboration between the government and the public service, as well as promoting unity and a sense of belonging among civil servants.
Also present were Cuepacs president Datuk Dr Adnan Mat and Cuepacs Sarawak chairman Kullin Djayang.
