Hollywood star George Clooney walked the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival on Thursday evening alongside his wife Amal, greeting fans and posing for selfies despite feeling unwell.
The 64-year-old actor has been diagnosed with sinusitis, his management said in response to a dpa inquiry, and was advised by his doctor “to limit his activities in the coming days to recover.” Sinusitis is an inflammation of the mucous membranes in the sinuses.
Earlier on Thursday, Clooney missed the press conference for “Jay Kelly,” the Noah Baumbach-directed film in competition, in which he stars with Adam Sandler and Laura Dern.
Sandler told reporters that “movie stars get sick too,” while Dern added that Clooney was “devastated” not to attend.
Clooney had arrived on the Lido in Venice on Wednesday before the opening of the film festival but cancelled interviews due to illness.
The 82nd edition of the Venice Film Festival opened with Paolo Sorrentino’s latest film. This year, 21 films are competing for the prestigious Golden Lion.
