As the cold weather arrives and grey skies dominate, getting clothes dry outside becomes the familiar winter battle we all know too well.
For those lacking a tumble dryer, the yearly fight to dry washing during the bitter winter months is absolutely genuine. However, don’t despair – a clever group of household experts on social media have revealed a fantastic money-saving method to rapidly dry your garments indoors, avoiding the need to blast the heating or depend on a tumble dryer.
In a Facebook group dedicated to cleaning icon Mrs Hinch, fittingly called ‘Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It’, one member revealed their winning strategy: “I use a clothes airer with a dehumidifier, it dries faster than my tumble dryer.”
Another member enthusiastically endorsed their dehumidifier. They said: “I swear by my dehumidifier. Hang the clothes in the utility room, shut the door and a load is dry in four hours.”
A third person added: “Wouldn’t be without [my dehumidifier]. Scary how much water it takes. No damp problems anymore and our clothes are dry overnight.”
Another useful suggestion for accelerating the drying process involves giving your washing machine an additional spin. Increase it to a higher setting or add an extra spin cycle to remove more moisture from your clothes, helping them dry more quickly.
For those fortunate enough to own a tumble dryer, here’s a clever technique: adding a dry towel alongside your damp laundry can dramatically improve your dryer’s performance. A savvy user suggested: “If you want to make your tumble dryer work quicker and use less electricity then put a towel in with a wet load, leave it in for 15-20 minutes and then remove it.”
