Gardai are investigating whether a young associate of murder victim Jason Hennessy Sr was threatened by men with knives – before a shooting took place.
Convicted burglar Joey Morgan (42) was shot in the arm in a terrifying incident that took place outside a Chinese takeaway in Corduff, west Dublin on Tuesday afternoon. Now it is feared that Morgan, who has 78 previous convictions, was blamed over an alleged incident in which a teenage associate of the late Hennessy Sr was intimidated by thugs with knives.
Sources say gardai are investigating claims that two men threatened the young man with weapons in the lead-up to the shooting – and that this may have provoked it. Hennessy Sr’s young associate, who is under the age of 18, is suspected of involvement in the subsequent shooting of Morgan – and the targeting of his brother David – who both fled when the gunman opened fire at around 4:40pm on Tuesday afternoon.
But, we can also reveal that two sons of Hennessy Sr – Jason Hennessy Jr and Brandon Hennessy – who are both on remand facing a Special Criminal Court trial over an alleged torture, were also targeted in jail attacks this week. Jason and Brandon are being housed in Dublin’s Mountjoy Prison – where it is understood both were separately attacked in incidents on Sunday and Monday.
Sources say Brandon Hennessy (22) was attacked by a number of lags in an exercise yard – while Jason Jr (28), was attacked the following day inside the prison. Neither man required hospital treatment, sources say – but their attack came just days before their young associate was allegedly intimidated and then instigated the shooting attack. It is not clear at this point whether the incidents are linked. However sources say there are high tensions on the ground in Corduff – where the Hennessy mob have operated for years.
Jason Hennessy Sr died after he was shot in a horrifying incident in Browne’s Steakhouse in Dublin on Christmas Eve 2023 – while his associates then violently killed his shooter – Tristan Sherry. Since then a feud has erupted – but this week’s shooting is not believed to be connected to that.
Gun victim Joey Morgan is well known to gardai and is from the Corduff Green area. He was 19 years old when he was first jailed for breaking into a house mere minutes after being released on bail for another burglary. He was later jailed for a burglary on a priest’s home in the Corduff area in July 2012 – with the court at the time hearing he was high on drugs when the offence took place.
Last year he appeared before a sitting of Blanchardstown District Court – which heard how he was “taking a lot of tablets” when he broke into the home of a former politician in November 2017. Morgan was at the time sentenced to a month in jail – and the court heard how he was “now a different man.”
His brother David (35) meanwhile has survived a number of attacks – including being shot in the head in a shocking incident in Corduff Park in Blanchardstown in March, 20, 2011. Both brothers were targeted amid a bitter local dispute with associates of the Hennessy mob.
Gardai are hopeful they will have an opportunity to speak to the young teenage suspect – whose senior associates are all in prison. Earlier this year Jason Hennessy Sr’s son Devon (29) entered a guilty plea before the Special Criminal Court – admitting his role in a torture attack on a man in a shed at the back of the family home in Sheephill Avenue in February 2025.
Devon admitted assaulting the victim as part of a joint enterprise aimed at “enhancing the ability of a criminal organisation to commit a serious offence”. His brothers Jason Jr and Brandon, along with Kenneth Fitzsimons (45) and his son, Dean Fitzsimons (26), of Castlecurragh Vale, Mulhuddart, are all still facing a Special Criminal Court trial over the incident.
In a statement, gardai said they are “investigating a shooting in Corduff, Dublin 15, this afternoon, Tuesday 26th August 2025.
“At approximately 4:40pm, a male sustained injuries during the course of a shooting incident near the Corduff Shopping Centre at Blackcourt Avenue.The man, aged in his 40s, was taken from the scene for treatment of injuries believed to be non life threatening,” a garda spokesperson said.
“The scene is currently held and a technical examination is underway. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.” Gardai have appealed for any witnesses in relation to the shooting incident to come forward.
“Any persons or road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 4:20pm and 5:20pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
