The Bursa Design and Technology Development Center (BUTGEM), operating under the Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO) Education Foundation, offered summer courses that allowed children to discover their talents. Young designers who participated in Model Robot, Origami-Paper Arts, and Young Mechanic training not only had fun but also developed their design and production skills.
BUTGEM, which continues its pioneering work in vocational training under the leadership of BTSO, inspires future designers by opening its workshops to children during the summer months. The training, provided in classes of 9 students for ages 13-15, boosts children’s self-confidence while also developing their problem-solving, analytical thinking, and teamwork skills.
The summer courses, which began in the first week of August and were held in four terms, were met with great interest again this year. Approximately 16 children have benefited from the training programs organized by BUTGEM over the past 3 years, and all students who completed the courses received a certificate of participation. Students participating in the Model Robot Course not only developed their mechanical dexterity but also gained exposure to basic programming knowledge, taking their first steps into the world of robotics. In the Origami-Paper Arts course, children designed various shapes with colored paper, developing their patience and attention, while also expressing their imaginations on paper. In the Young Mechanic training, students worked with wooden parts, creating their own designs and experiencing the production and patterning of parts.
Participants expressed their satisfaction with the training. Sait Gül, who participated in the “Origami” course, stated that he had the opportunity to explore production talent in different areas and thanked those who contributed. İlay Dincel, who received “Young Mechanic” training, stated that she designs her own parts in the woodworking workshop and expressed her desire to pursue a career in design. Yiğit Alp Arslan, a “Model Robot” trainee, emphasized that this is the first time he has built his own robot and stated that he will focus more on coding from now on.
Murat Kurtlar, BTSO Education Foundation BUTGEM General Coordinator, stated that summer courses are an important part of their goal of raising productive individuals. He noted that children learn while having fun through the activities they organize. He said, “With the work we conduct at BUTGEM, we aim to instill in our children the importance of creating, designing, thinking, and teamwork at a young age. The training we provide in areas like robotics and art boosts their self-confidence and enhances their professional awareness. We strive to cultivate individuals who will shape the technologies of the future.”
