South Milwaukee residents may soon be able to “shop the Pig.”
Fox Bros. Piggly Wiggly is set to be part of a closed session meeting with South Milwaukee’s Common Council on Nov. 18 to discuss potentially opening in the former Pick ‘n Save building at 2901 S. Chicago Ave.
Pick ‘n Save closed its South Milwaukee store in July 2025.
This news comes about a year after Malicki’s Piggly Wiggly at 2201 E. Rawson Ave. in Oak Creek closed its doors. That space is still empty.
The closed session in South Milwaukee is, in part, “to discuss a potential agreement with Fox Bros. Piggly Wiggly to open a grocery store business at 2901 S. Chicago Avenue,” the meeting agenda said.
South Milwaukee commissioned a grocery market analysis report earlier in 2025, which was completed in early November, according to City Administrator Patrick Brever. He said the city has been engaged in discussions with Fox Bros. Piggly Wiggly over the past few months on potentially opening a store in the former Pick ‘n Save space.
Due to the discussion taking place in closed session, Brever declined to provide more details at this time other than to say the city is “excited to be working with Piggly Wiggly.”
“Alongside Aldi and Walmart, we want our residents to have options for their grocery shopping needs,” Brever said in an email to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
He said once Pick ‘n Save announced it was closing its South Milwaukee location the city “made recruiting a new grocery store a top priority.”
Fox Bros. currently operates 11 Piggly Wiggly stores across Wisconsin in Hartford, Hartland, Hubertus, Jackson, Oconomowoc, Port Washington, Slinger, Saukville, West Bend, Beaver Dam and Mayville.
