Former Marion supervisor enters Assembly race | Fingerlakes1.com

A longtime local official is jumping into a state Assembly race in Wayne County.

Summer Johnson, the former Town Supervisor of Marion, announced she is running for New York’s 130th Assembly District, saying she wants to bring principled leadership and accountability to Albany.

The district is currently represented by incumbent Republican Assemblyman Brian Manktelow.

Johnson pointed to her experience as both a town supervisor and county legislator as the foundation of her campaign. During that time, she oversaw municipal operations, managed budgets, and supported infrastructure, emergency services, and transparency in government.

Her work also included collaborating with county and state agencies, administering grants, and taking part in statewide planning and compliance efforts that affect local governments.

“Serving at the local level has shown me both what works — and what doesn’t — when decisions are made far from the communities they affect,” Johnson said. “I’m running to ensure that the voices of families, first responders, farmers, veterans, and small business owners in the 130th District are heard clearly and respected in Albany.”

Johnson said her campaign will focus on public safety, fiscal responsibility, local control, limited government, and policies aimed at strengthening families and protecting individual freedoms.

She also highlighted her personal connection to service, noting she is the wife of a disabled veteran and views public service as a lived responsibility, not an abstract idea.

Johnson acknowledged Manktelow’s tenure and service to the district, offering praise for his work and commitment.

“Brian Manktelow has served this district with dedication, and I have great respect for him and for his family,” she said. “Public service requires sacrifice not only from those who serve, but from the people who stand beside them.”

Additional campaign information is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
