Liverpool striker Alexander Isak looks set to be on the sidelines for an extended period after breaking his leg, and the Reds could be in the market for another forward when the window opens.
GIVEMESPORT sources confirmed that Liverpool were one of the sides who were eyeing a move to sign Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, but he’s now chosen to join Manchester City. As a result, the Merseyside club could look to sign an alternative, with a number of forwards being linked with a move to Anfield.
Isak’s injury could prompt the Reds to look for a different profile of forward, aiming to bring in a natural striker rather than someone more capable of playing out wide. As it stands, Arne Slot’s only natural senior striker is Hugo Ekitike, so he could be in a sticky situation if the French international joins the injury list.
Liverpool Eyeing Brentford Striker Amid Isak Injury
According to reports, Liverpool are now eyeing a move to sign Brentford striker Igor Thiago after Isak suffered a serious injury against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month. It’s claimed that Liverpool see him as an ideal fit for Arne Slot’s system.
The Brentford forward has enjoyed an impressive season with the Bees, scoring 11 goals for the club so far. A new striker certainly wouldn’t be a surprise, and Thiago could be the ideal addition for Liverpool.
The 24-year-old, who’s been labelled “phenomenal” by boss Keith Andrews, has already adapted to life in the Premier League and shown he’s capable of producing in England’s top flight, while he’s still yet to reach his full potential. Liverpool might need someone to hit the ground running, especially if Ekitike gets injured, and Thiago could be exactly that.
According to reports in Brazil, Brentford could demand £70m for their prized asset however.
Plenty of Pressure on Ekitike
Liverpool were in an ideal situation heading into the 2025/2026 season. Ekitike was brought in alongside Isak, meaning they had two elite-level strikers to choose from and rotate in and out of the side. When one isn’t performing, the other can step in, which is what Ekitike has been doing.

Now, Liverpool have minimal options in the centre-forward position, and there is a lot of pressure on the French striker to perform. Slot will be praying that he doesn’t get injured himself, unless they can manage to bring in a player of Thiago’s calibre.
