Benghazi – The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Libyan House of Representatives held a remote consultative session. This session followed up on recommendations from a workshop. The workshop was held in Sabha. It addressed the impacts of climate change on southern regions. This effort activates the “Green Sustainability Initiative.” The initiative aims to enhance institutional work. It focuses on climate and environmental issues.

The session focused on discussing how to turn workshop recommendations into an action plan. This primarily involved the institutional aspect. The plan will address climate change consequences.

Discussions covered several key areas. These included adapting the agricultural sector to drought conditions. They also covered water resource governance. Strengthening the role of municipalities in climate adaptation was discussed. Expanding renewable energy use was another topic. This is a sustainable development option. It supports the stability of local communities in the south.

Wael Al-Ashibi made a statement to the Libyan News Agency. He oversees the Green Sustainability Initiative. He is also assigned by the Foreign Affairs Committee. Al-Ashibi confirmed this session complements the Sabha workshop’s outcomes. That workshop saw broad participation. Experts, municipal representatives, and specialists attended. Their aim was to explore responses to environmental challenges facing the south. The south is considered one of the areas most affected by climate change.

Al-Ashibi explained the consultative meeting’s goal. It is to move from diagnosis and recommendations to implementation. This involves developing a clear vision. It defines institutional roles. It also outlines coordination mechanisms. This ensures integrated efforts. It also prevents duplicate initiatives.

He noted that presentations were heard during the session. These covered previous efforts. Various entities made these efforts. They focused on combating desertification and climate adaptation. The aim is to build upon them. It also seeks to enhance their effectiveness. This will be within a unified national framework.

He added that these meetings’ results will support policy formulation. This will lead to more responsive government policies regarding climate challenges. It will also open doors for international partnerships. Specialized expertise will be acquired. This will help southern regions adapt to new environmental conditions.

Al-Ashibi affirmed the Foreign Affairs Committee will regularly follow this file. This ensures workshop and consultative session outcomes translate into practical steps.
