Super Rugby Pacific: Western Force re-sign inside centre and Wallabies-capped back Hamish StewartBen SmithThe West AustralianWed, 6 August 2025 7:10AMCommentsCommentsEmail Ben Smith

Western Force centre Hamish Stewart has re-committed to the Super Rugby Pacific club, with the reliable 12 penning a new deal for the next two seasons.

The 27-year-old has been an ever-present in the Force line-up over the past three years, having made 40 appearances after moving from Queensland Reds.

No Force player has featured as often as Stewart over the past three seasons and all 40 of those appearances have been starts, while he has only been substituted off on six occasions in his Force career.

Stewart, who made his Wallabies debut against Argentina in 2024, has signed on until the end of the 2027 Super Rugby season.

He finished third in the Nathan Sharpe Medal count in 2024, after recording the equal fourth-most tackles (180) across that Super Rugby Pacific campaign, and he continued to excel in the 2025 season.

With the Force having re-signed Bayley Kuenzle and Divad Palu for the next one and two seasons respectively, the return of Stewart gives coach Simon Cron a trusted, hard-nosed inside centre who provides a valuable defensive nous in midfield.

“Hamish is a core member of our squad and he helps drive the standards, expectations and culture in our group,” Cron said.

“You can see that from how hard ‘Hammer’ plays. Each week he leads by doing. He’s a big part of our team and our squad and our planning moving forward.”

Stewart, who played two Wallabies matches last year and represented Australia XV against England in November, said he was excited to extend his time in WA.

“I’m really happy to be staying in the west with the Force and am excited about what we’re building,” Stewart said.

“I’ve really enjoyed my three years with the club, working with Crono and the coaches, along with a really tight knit playing group including some really close mates.”
