“For Vietnam coffee: Too much rain & another typhoon may compromise a great coffee crop”

Our WeatherWealth newsletter has coffee traders, producers and processors in a dozen countries who depend on our analysis of weather and other fundamentals. While Brazil’s multi-year drought helped coffee prices soar to over $4.00 per pound, the longer-term prospects of a weak La Niña and something we call a negative Antarctic Oscillation Index (-AAO) is bringing about relief for Brazil’s coffee crop. However, the crop in Vietnam is in trouble from flooding due to the fact that what was a big robusta coffee crop will be compromised a bit by yet another typhoon that will hit Vietnam’s key central highlands regions later this week.
So… what are the differences between these two types of coffee? Let’s put faces on this couple of “characters” !

While we have been longer term bearish coffee, in the short term tight stocks of coffee and a typhoon hitting Vietnam may keep this market in a bull trend. Also, the market is waiting to hear new news about any Trade Tariff agreements, or not.
A great Vietnam coffee crop and previous very bearish (-3) crop sentiment was scaled back to a (-1) as damage will be done from excess moisture (+4 bullish scale) this week. We recently alerted our clients to this potential.
