A fire at the National Information Resources Service’s Daejeon main office computer room has also paralyzed the government’s internal administrative network, the ‘Onnara System.’ The Onnara System is an administrative network used by public officials from all government ministries to perform tasks such as document creation, approval, and email.
According to multiple sources from the government, public officials who came to work for weekend tasks are unable to perform normal duties as they cannot access the Onnara System at government ministries. One government source stated, “We are unable to access the Onnara System,” adding, “If the situation prolongs beyond the weekend, work itself could come to a standstill.”
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy informed employees through an internal notice that access to the Onnara System will remain unavailable until recovery, with only limited use of online memos possible.
Government email services are also unavailable, causing difficulties in distributing press releases and explanatory materials. Announcements to press corps from each ministry are being made via KakaoTalk due to the paralysis of mailing services. The Ministry of Science and ICT stated, “Due to the suspension of administrative network services caused by the fire at the National Information Resources Service, we will be providing guidance on press releases, etc., through Naver Mail for the time being.”
